Riches and tornadoes

so this morning at six thirty we got a tornado warning, this is what hit down only half a mile away.

naw i'm just kidding, there was a tornado warning, but thank God there never was any.  i felt convicted though during the watch because i was really worried about my stuff in my room that might be ruined if we got hit.  i think that God sends tornadoes just as a constant reminder that things won't last.  two years back we had a real tornado touch down half a mile away and it was pretty scary, we drove by later and it was just wreckage everywhere, one house was even split in half.  here's a good reminder of storing up treasure on earth and not in heaven.

The Parable of the Rich Fool

16 And he (Jesus) told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’
18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’
20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

Praise the Lord the tornado didn't hit our house, and be mindful that riches stored on earth won't last.

BUSSSSSSSYYYYYYYY!!!!

sorry i haven't posted in a long time, believe it or not, i have been busy.  my nana and papa are here and so far so good.  i had my best friend seth over (nathan's younger bro) on monday, and we played a game i got for Chritsmas like almost the whole three hours.  tuesday kade and i went a took down all the Christmas decorations at church (you would not believe how much rap we listened to together in the three hours we spent there).  then he went to a friend's house and played the board game survivor, (the board game version of the tv show) and then headed over to the church for band practice.  then we went over to the hastings house, (because they were having some friends over that we were friends with).  we did square dancing (which was awesome) clan tag, and spotlight, (and kade did a magic show).  wednesday we cleaned the house and picked up nana and papa.  FUN!!!

picks, 360s, and foreign exchange students

a few exciting things have happened recently.  one: yesterday i spent most of the day at the renfrow's house.  i spent most of that time swinging a pick.  i was dubbed (by kade of course) picker-nose (it's an inside joke, ask nathan).  two: that night my dad's boss lent us his his Xbox 360 and Kinex for a whole week!  we had so much fun playing it while kole and kade were sleeping over at the hastings.  three: we are having our foreign exchange students over for Christmas Eve and some might stay for the night!

Christmas Party

so last Sunday, the 12th, we had a Christmas party at our church.  it was a blast!  i got to play o come, o come Emmanuel (seabird's version), accompanied by kade, and from what i heard, it was pretty good.  by far my favorite thing though was kade and luke (nathan's older brother) doing a Christmas rap song.  it was hilarious!  but the stupid video won't load, i need a youtube account, so y'all will just have to suffer.  all except for hayden, hayley, and nathan, they were there when they did it.

oh, and i was just thinking, i have never been tagged before.  so if anyone has a good tag, i would be delighted if they would do me the honor of tagging me.

blondie jokes. . .

. . . for anna:

a blondie was walking down the street, and he stopped to watch some workers build a house.  he was particularly watching one guy, (who was a blondie himself) who was picking up nails, looking at them, then if he deemed them good enough to use, he would hammer them in.  if they weren't satisfactory he would lay them in a pile besides him.  After a while the blondie on the street asked the other blondie "what in the world are you doing?"  "well, you see these nails are made wrong, the heads are pointed towards the wall, i can't use them."  the blondie on the ground shook his head and said "you dummy, those are for the other side!"

a blondie was driving down the street when he looked into a corn field and saw another blondie rowing a boat in the middle.  the blondie pulled over and standing at the fence, yelled at the blondie in the boat, "hey, you're that guy whose been giving the rest of us a bad name!  and if i could swim, i'd get out there and beat you up!"

q: how do you kill a one handed blondie in a tree?  a: wave.

q:how did the blondie die raking leaves?  q: he fell out of the tree.

an old man was driving down the highway, when a blondie in a pink ferrari roared past him.  "how is it that i am a hard working man, and all i have is an old rickety truck, and this blondie has a pink ferrari?"  he managed to make her pull over and then he walked up to her.  "get out," he said.  she did.  then the old man drew a circle in the sand and said "don't leave this circle, or something terrible will happen to you."  then the old man picked up his sledge hammer and beat the blondie's car as hard as he could.  he looked back at her and was surprised to see her giggling.  he then proceeded to beat the poor car even more.  he looked back and now she was laughing.  he got really mad and after pouring gas all over the car, torched it.  when he looked back she was laughing uncontrollably.  "what is so funny?" he asked exasperated.  "i stepped out of the circle three times while you weren't looking."

a blondie, a burnet, and a red-head, were trying to get into their convertible car (they had locked the keys in), when the blondie looks up and says "you'd better get in soon, the hood's down, and it's about to rain."

a blondie, a burnet, and a red-head walked into a store, and the manager said "there's a mirror in the back where, if you say something true, you will win an amazing prize.  but if you say something false, you will be sucked into the mirror and will never be able to get out."  The three went to the back and the burnet said "i think i am the prettiest girl here."  suddenly she had the keys to a brand new sports car.  then the red-head said "i think i am the smartest girl here."  suddenly she had the keys to a brand new mansion.  the blondie stood in front of the mirror and after thinking a bit said "i think---" then she disappeared.

a blondie comes into a store and after looking around a bit, asks a young man working there "sir can you get me that tv?"  "sorry," said the man, "we don't serve blondie's."  she left and dyed her hair red, then she came back and asked the man again for the tv.  "sorry," said the man again, "we don't server blondie's."  puzzled the blondie left and got plastic surgery and totally redid her looks.  then she came back and asked the guy again.  "sorry," he said for the third time, "we don't serve blondie's."  "how do you know i'm a blondie?" she asked frustratedly.  "well for one thing, that's a microwave. . ."

i hope this is in no way offending any blondie. . .

everyone likes jokes. . . right?

once there was a man, he was mowing his lawn when his cat jumped in front of the mower and got it's tail cut off.  his neighbor was there to witness it, and when the man picked up the cat and the severed tail he asked "whacha doing herman?"  "takin' him to wal-mart," came the reply.  "why would you do that" asked his puzzled neighbor.  (remember this is in redneck southern Arkansas)  "i heard they were the greatest re-tailers in the country!" was the reply.

two muffins were baking in an oven, one of the said "whew, its hot in here."  the other one promptly cried "ah! a talking muffin!"

i finally finished 'a tale of two cities', by charles dickens, and when asked by my teacher what was at the end of the story i replied "a period."

i was wondering why the baseball was getting bigger, then it hit me.

one night i had a dream i was a muffler, when i woke up i was exhausted.

when fish travel in schools they often take da-bait.

writing with a broken pencil is pointless.

(y'all with love this. . .)   i met a man who said "i know a man who has a wooden leg, his name is smith."  "great" i replied, "what's the name of his other leg?" (. . .if you've seen mary popins.)

i can think of a million more jokes to write out, but kwinn is pressing me to come a watch a movie with him, so ttfn!

integrity

so a while ago i was thinking about a virtue we call  integrity, and a scene from a movie came to mind.  it was off a not-so-great movie with my favorite actor steve mcqueen.  he's an undercover agent working with the government to find this murderer. . . (skips a majority of the movie). . . he finally tracks him down, to the airport, where he was trying to make his getaway.  then he meets a fellow fbi agent, who tries to bribe him with $15,000 to let himself catch this guy.  basically he was trying to get mcqueen to sell his integrity.  what mcqueen says after that should not be repeated, but he flatly refuses the guy and tells him to get out of his way.  that was the best part of the whole movie.  that's what i call integrity, way to go mcqueen.

the full story

so we stopped by the church to pick up the drums, and some chords, and sound equipment, then headed over the school to set up.  we were an hour and a half early so we had plenty time to set up.  the only problem was that school was still in so the stage were were going to use was being used for band practice.  (they stunk!)  i don't mean to be mean, but they really did.  they finally got done and we began the real work.  i think there were nine of us there;  amy and amanda thomas, hayden, hayley, and reagan renfrow, mike dechanes (i hope thats how you spell it) and me, kole, and kade.  after we were done setting up and the kids were done with lunch we began.  kole was lead signer and ac. guitar, reagen: was the bass-drummer (bass) kade: was drums, hayley: violin and keyboard, mike: sound guy, amy and amanda: background vocals, me: powerpoint.  after playing a few song we went and played marshmallow dodgeball, with gigantic marshmallow that we beaned people with.  it was so much fun.  then we went back in and sang a few more songs.  then we went acoustic and did some christmas songs, where our whole group sat on the stage and sang, it was tons of fun!  we even had a smoke machine.  it was erstic.  hope y'all have a great day.

Public School Project

so tonight he had a really cool opportunity to go to a school nearby and play some music, share the gospel, and play marshmallow dodgeball with a bunch of eleven year-old kids.  here are a few pics.

  LtoR reagen, hayden, and kade.
reagen, the bass-drummer! :) (inside joke)
hayden said he was allergic to pictures. . . i didn't believe him so i took a picture of him.
kole and hayley.  she has something in front of her face so it made her look kinda weird.
kade standing in front of the stage.

i don't know about you but i had a blast, next post will be on what exactly did we do.

Gift Carol

well i was going to put up one of my favorite Christmas songs, in honor of the first of december, but my dad said we aren't allowed to search lyrics until he's got the filter working for those.  but because y'all are so awesome, i will try to copy it by ear.

Gift Carol
Downhere

Under the tree-light,
All wrapped in labels,
Each with a dear one in mind
Days ever nearer,
We're all the more eager
To see, what that morning will find
Well Heaven gave the first time. . .

There's a gift marked for us,
By the angel chorus,
Not in sparkly paper,
But a lowly manger,
Sealed in hopeful promise,
For every doubting Thomas,
From God, with love
To all mankind

Under the star-light,
Late in the stable,
God, with his dear ones in mind,
Given the Savior,
Sent to deliver,
The brightest new morning
You'll ever find
When Heaven gave the first time. . .

There's a gift marked for us,
By the angel chorus,
Not in sparkly paper,
But a lowly manger,
Sealed in hopeful promise,
For every doubting Thomas,
From God, with love
To all mankind

And every good and perfect gift,
Comes down, and we'll spread it around
Oh every good and perfect gift,
Comes down, and we'll spread it around
Spread it around

There's a gift marked for us,
By the angel chorus,

There's a gift marked for us,
By the angel chorus,
Not in sparkly paper,
But a lowly manger,
Sealed in hopeful promise,
For every doubting Thomas,
From God, with love
To all mankind

i changed my mind, this is my favorite christmas song, you should look it up, it is the most totally erstic, epic, legit, gnarly, beastly song ever!  (for those who don't know what erstic is, don't worry, it's kind of an inside joke with the renfrows and us.  and don't bother googleing it. . . you won't come up with anything.)  my favorite part is when they say, 'from God, with love.  To all mankind.'  it's like a present labeled to us.  please, as a special favor to me, please look this song up and listen to it.

love y'all, have the best christmas time ever.

Psalms 62

Psalms 62
Shane & Shane

He’s the only one, strong enough to lean
My heaviness against, the weight of all my sin
Falling on a rock, leaning on a fortress
Oh the wall of God, Jesus
He won’t move

On God I rest, My salvation
My fortress, shall not be shaken
My mighty rock, and my glorious
I lay my head upon His chest
On God I rest

He’s the only one, strong enough to lean
My heaviness against, the weight of all my sin
Falling on a rock, leaning on a fortress
Oh the wall of God, Jesus
He won’t move

On God I rest, My salvation
My fortress, shall not be shaken
My mighty rock, and my glorious
I lay my head upon His chest
On God I rest

Oh I am calling out
Oh my soul
Oh my stubborn soul
Won’t you wait on Him
Wait in the quiet
Even in your fear
Oh your God is here, to lean on!
He won’t move

He has spoken
Hear his voice
I have come for the broken
So all ye weary come and rest

Psalms 62 1 Truly my soul finds rest in God;
   my salvation comes from him.
2 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

3 How long will you assault me?
Would all of you throw me down—
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
4 Surely they intend to topple me
   from my lofty place;
   they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.[b]

 5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
   my hope comes from him.
6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God[c];
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
   for God is our refuge.

9 Surely the lowborn are but a breath,
the highborn are but a lie.
If weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
together they are only a breath.
10 Do not trust in extortion
   or put vain hope in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
do not set your heart on them.

11 One thing God has spoken,
   two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God,
 12 and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;
and, “You reward everyone
according to what they have done.”

Lost

i don't have anything to post on, so give me a moment to think of a good song. . . . . . wait! what about the one i'm listening to right now?  here you go (btw it only took me like five seconds to think of what to post on.)

Lost
needtobreathe

Look up, it's up to you,
Remember all the reasons to give grace,
And mercy for all the time you're here.
I know,
I know it's true early on we've made to choose,
We all make diversions for the way we are,
When my eyes have to lead the way.

I get lost, I'm just a fool,
I can't get it back,
Get it back to you.
My hands are washed,
My heart is new,
When I get it back,
Get it back, to you.

Don't wait cuz you might miss the way that you'd get out of this.
And it's easy when you're living to forget,
I know you can't be lost,
But finding is the greatest cost.
We all know that getting back is only half the way,
When my eyes have to lead the way.

I get lost, I'm just a fool,
I can't get it back,
Get it back to you.
My hands are washed,
My heart is new,
When I get it back,
Get it back.

Get up, Get up,
The world is with you now,
Get up, Get up,
Your love will show you how,
Get up, Get up,
When there's nothing left to do,
Get up, Get up,
Ohhhhhhh ohhh.

I get lost, I'm just a fool,
I can't get it back,
Get it back to you.
My hands are washed,
My heart is new,
When I get it back,
Get it back, to you.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

so as y'all know today was black friday, a big day for sales at stores, and people line up at 4am in the morning to get the best deals.  so to bless these people we stood out there with them in the cold, and handed out hot chocolate.  there were quite a few people out.  after that we went home and crashed.  then when we were all up, we went to sam's club, mcdonalds, old navy, lifeway, gordman's, bed, bath, and beyond (yuck!), and target.  it was really disappointing 'cause when i got to gordman's the line was so long that i couldn't get the stuff i wanted.  there were literally fifty people in a line, i decided i wasn't just about to wait that long. . .  but i did get some cool new clothes from old navy and target.

oh! i almost forgot, my dad got me downhere's Christmas album called 'how many kings'.  and i love it!!! . i'll give you the greatest Christmas song ever wrote (IMHO):

How Many Kings

Follow the star to a place unexpected
Would you believe after all we’ve projected
A child in a manger
Lowly and small, the weakest of all
Unlikeliness hero, wrapped in his mothers shawl
Just a child, Is this who we’ve waited for?
Cause how many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Bringing our gifts for the newborn savior
All that we have whether costly or meek
Because we believe
Gold for his honor and frankincense for his pleasure
And myrrh for the cross he’ll suffer
Do you believe, is this who we’ve waited for?
It’s who we’ve waited for
How many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for me
All for me
All for you
All for me
All for you

Owwwwwwowow!!!

pardon the title, but i have good reason to yell at y'all.  so earlier this year, May i think, we were on vacation near the buffalo river, and i was flipping over my kayak, and the side came up and took my big toenail off of my left foot.  well it grew in wrong and now i have a really bad infection on my toe.  i went to the doctors yesterday, and now i am taking these ginormous antibiotic pills, and some ointment to put on my toe.  the doctor said it should be healed in a week or so.  i really hope so because we might start indoor soccer anytime now.

happy thanksgiving y'all!

victory, 300lb trash cans, and dead squirrels

so a few things i wanted to share:  the colorado rapids did end up beating dallas in extra time, which i was really excited about, we got to go and work at the renfrows for seven hours yesterday, and we had our thanksgiving reenactment.  it was a lot of fun working at the renfrows, and one point when i was pulling down some ceiling boards, one fell and hit me really hard on the back of my head and i started bleeding, and my eyes were out of focus for a few seconds.  thankfully i wasn't hurt bad.  then me and nay-nay, (nathan hastings) were hauling a large trash can, weighing around three hundred pounds, to the dumpster.  the hardest part was that when we got it in the dumpster we had to close the door and dump it out, so it didn't fall out of the dumpster when we did.  then it fell over.  and it took us like ten minutes to yank it back up and then finally dump it all out.  oh, and i found a dead squirrel in the ceiling that i was pulling down. . . (yes, it was sick)

some random things. . .

so today we were supposed to go ice skating with our youth group, but the ice melted (i know, i was like 'who's ever heard of a ice rink melting?)  so then we decided to go to a concert with leeland, sanctus reel, and the afters, but it sold out before we could get tickets.  i am really bummed.  the only thing on the bright side is

  1. we get to watch cranford tonight.
  2. the mls cup is being played for tonight, fc dallas vs. colorado rapids.
  3. we are going to go and help the renfrows at their new house.
no one but me, is going to excited about #2, but i'm excited.  it's been a pretty bad night, so pray that it would be corrected by the rapids crushing fc dallas.  (fc dallas beat my team, the LA, Galaxy.)  i was pretty mad about that, but not too much.

embracing accusation _____ shane & shane

The father of lies
Coming to steal
Kill and destroy
All my hopes of being good enough
I hear him saying cursed are the ones
Who can’t abide
He’s right
Alleluia he’s right!

The devil is preaching
The song of the redeemed
That I am cursed and gone astray
I cannot gain salvation
Embracing accusation

Could the father of lies
Be telling the truth
Of God to me tonight?
If the penalty of sin is death
Then death is mine
I hear him saying cursed are the ones
Who can’t abide
He’s right
Alleluia he’s right!

The devil is preaching
The song of the redeemed
That I am cursed and gone astray
I cannot gain salvation
Embracing accusation

Oh the devil’s singing over me
An age old song
That I am cursed and gone astray
Singing the first verse so conveniently
over me

He’s forgotten the refrain. . .

Jesus saves!

amen!, what an amazing song!  this is my favorite song right now.  rarely will any lyrics get better than this.

man, i am so itchy. . .

sorry i haven't been posting or reading my blog much lately, but i think i should tell you why.  mondays, we are off of computer, tuesday i ate something that didn't agree with my tummy (yes i just said tummy) and i lost it a few hours later, and today we were doing work at the renfrow's new house (hayden, hayley, and tdhhrree).  we had a lot of fun, but we worked with fiberglass, and that's why i said i was itchy.  we were like totally  pulling down ceilings, insulation, and breaking apart dressers and cabinets.  then when it was done, we piled up some mattresses and jumped off the dumpster onto the mattresses.  at first we just jumped down feet first then i did a front-flip off and onto the mattresses.  then i just like let myself fall off the dumpster.  it was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun!  but i am sooo itchy!

Well, well, well...

sheesh!  i am going to be so busy, so don't blame me if i don't post much this week.  i've got my uncle, aunt, and three cousins driving in from california.  my uncle has been out of work for a while, so he's coming out here to look for a job, please pray that the lord would supply him with a job to provide for his family.  they are going to be with us for two weeks, please pray for my sanity. . .

[i'm just kidding about praying for my sanity, but maybe patience, 'cause the oldest is only eight...]

pumas, pet co., and 5$ footlongs

soooooooooooooo. . .  yesterday mom, aunt robbie, kwinn, chloe, clarity, covey, and i went out shopping at the mall.  and yes, kwinn and i were forced to wander the mall for three hours, while mom stayed all of her time in one store. Loft.  kwinn and i calculated that we went to fourteen different stores, and spent almost a hundred dollars.  the stores included, petco, candy craze, hibbit sports, and the foodcourt, (these are only a few select, spots).  we were getting hungry and so we almost bought a footlong at subway to share.  i bought these bad boys at the shoe depot.

these are indoor soccer shoes, which i will hopefully be using to play in sometime in the winter.  we will play indoor soccer with a weighted ball and a field that is half as big as a normal regulation field.  it is beastly.

Burn us UP!

do you ever wish you could have great faith? faith that would cause you to be willing to lose your life, just in order not to forsake God?  i was recently listening to a shane & shane song called 'burn us up', and it struck me. . . these guys were willing to give thier lives to a fiery furnace, rather than forsake God.  it's talking about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

There were three, before the king
There were three who wouldn’t bow to him
For when you heard, the music play
And you were standing you would burn
They looked at him and said…

Burn us up! Burn us up! Burn us up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire
We give up! We give up! We give up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire!
Won’t you throw us in the fire!

The king enraged, at what they said
Sent the three away to find their death
The palace stopped in unbelief
When the guilty raised their hands to sing
They looked at him and said…
Burn us up! Burn us up! Burn us up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire
We give up! We give up! We give up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire!
Won’t you throw us in the fire!

You are able to deliver from the fire of affliction
It’s the declaration of my Lord
You’re not an image of gold
You’re the God of old
You have made us, come and save us
We are Yours
But even if You don’t, if you don't

But even if You don’t, if you don't
We will burn! we will burn!
We will burn!

Burn us up! Burn us up! Burn us up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire
We give up! We give up! We give up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire!
Won’t you throw us in the fire!

wow,. . . . . can you believe that?

You are able to deliver from the fire of affliction
It’s the declaration of my Lord
You’re not an image of gold
You’re the God of old

You have made us, come and save us
We are Yours. . .
But even if You don’t,

We will burn!
oh, if only i had that kind of faith. . .
